Getting Around WordPress & the Elementor Backend

Length: ~7 min

Overview

A visual tour of the WordPress and Elementor dashboards so you know where things live. Covers the areas you'll actually use day-to-day (Pages, Posts, Media, Elementor Templates, Theme Builder) and clarifies the key difference between editing a single page vs. editing a template that affects the entire site.

What's covered

  • Pages vs. Posts — the difference and when to use each
  • The Media Library — where every uploaded image, video, and file lives
  • Elementor menu areas — where to find Elementor-specific settings
  • Saved Templates vs. Theme Builder Templates — two different types that look similar but behave differently
  • How the blog page is built — walking through what’s a single post vs. what’s a sitewide theme template (sidebar, footer area, etc.)
  • Important warning about editing Theme Builder pages — why updates in there affect every page on the site
  • Just got access to the site and don’t know where to start
  • Can’t find where a specific setting lives
  • Need to understand why some edits only change one page while others change everything
  • Are about to edit the header, footer, or blog template (watch first!)

Elementor Basics & Using the Design System

Length: ~22 min

Overview

A deep dive into working inside Elementor — using the structure panel to navigate layers, editing text and images, swapping styles, and (most importantly) using the global design system to keep everything consistent. The #1 rule: use the pre-set global colors and typography so you don't create a sitewide mess when you want to update something later.

What's covered

  • The Structure Panel — using the layers panel on the right to select and move elements easily
  • Editing text, images, and links — the basics of making content changes
  • Copy, paste, and paste style — reusing styling across elements
  • Elementor 4 Atomic Elements — why to skip them and stick with the originals
  • Global design system — using pre-set colors, fonts, and sizes instead of custom overrides
  • REM vs. pixels — why REM is used for mobile-friendly responsive design
  • Mobile view, preview, and publish — testing changes and pushing them live safely
  • Important warning about global settings — why NOT to adjust global colors or fonts unless absolutely necessary
  • Are new to editing in Elementor and need the basics
  • Keep clicking the wrong element and can’t figure out why
  • Want to change text, swap images, or update links
  • Need to understand why you shouldn’t manually change colors or fonts
  • Are getting ready to copy, paste, or restyle elements
  • Want to preview changes on mobile before publishing

How do I select a hard-to-click element?
Use the Structure Panel on the right — click the element from the layers list instead of trying to click it on the page

How do I change text?
Click the text → type new text directly in the left panel (not on the page)

How do I add or change a link?
Click the element → paste URL in the Link field, OR start typing a page name to link internally

How do I open a link in a new tab?
In the Link field, click the gear icon → toggle “Open in new window”

How do I swap an image?
Click the image → click the current image thumbnail → pick from Media Library or upload new

How do I copy a style from one element to another?
Right-click the styled element → Copy → right-click target element → Paste Style

How do I move an element up or down?
Drag it in the Structure Panel (easier than dragging on the page itself)

Where do I pick colors and fonts?
Use the global options with the GLOBAL icon — DON’T use the pencil icon to pick custom colors or fonts

How do I preview on mobile?
Click the device icons at the bottom of the left panel

How do I preview the page before publishing?
Click the eyeball icon at the bottom of the left panel

How do I publish my changes?
Click the green Publish button in the bottom left (this goes live immediately)

How do I save without publishing?
Click the arrow next to Publish → Save Draft

What should I NOT do?
Don’t manually override colors, fonts, or sizes with custom values — always use the global design system options (please use GLOBAL settings)

Elementor Templates Usage Guide

Length: ~5 min

Overview

How to use the saved templates (pre-built sections) to add content to pages without starting from scratch. Covers two main workflows: inserting a saved template into a page, and copy-pasting an existing section from one page to another. The goal is to never build from scratch — always start with something that's already designed and styled.

What's covered

  • What saved templates are — pre-built sections ready to drop into any page
  • Inserting a saved template — adding an FAQ (or any other section) to a page
  • Previewing templates — looking at all available templates before choosing one
  • Copying sections between pages — reusing an existing section on a new page
  • Deleting mistakes — removing a section if you added it by accident
  • Building new pages — using templates as the starting point, never from scratch
  • Checking mobile view — always previewing on mobile after adding anything
  • The “leave without saving” warning — what to do when exiting a page
  • Need to add a new section to an existing page
  • Are building a new page and don’t want to start from scratch
  • Want to reuse a section (like FAQs) across multiple pages
  • Need to copy a section from one page and paste it to another
  • Want to see all the pre-built templates available

Where do I find the saved templates?
Elementor menu → Templates → Saved Templates

How do I add a saved template to a page?
In Elementor → scroll to where you want it → click the folder icon → pick the template → Insert

How do I preview a template before using it?
In Templates → right-click (or Ctrl+click) the template name → Open in New Tab

How do I copy a section from one page to another?
Right-click the section → Copy → go to the other page → right-click where you want it → Paste

How do I delete a section I added by mistake?
Right-click the section → Delete

What’s the best way to build a new page?
Start with sections from templates or other pages — don’t build from scratch

Should I always check mobile view after adding a section?
Yes — click the mobile icon at the bottom to confirm it looks good

What happens if I try to leave without publishing?
A warning pops up asking if you want to save/publish — click Leave if you don’t want to keep your changes

What should I NOT do?
Don’t build from scratch when a template already exists for what you need. Always use what’s already there
